You've Got To Love It

You’ve Got To Love It!

You didn’t sign up for it. But by some ‘fluke’ you ended up with the responsibility of something far bigger than you could have imagined, now resting on your shoulders. Does this sound familiar?

Take, for example, the scenario of a group of work colleagues who convince you to go with them to ‘talk’ to the supervisor about things that are not going ‘right’. However, once in the supervisor’s office, they suddenly fade into the background leaving you at the front, as if you were their spokesperson and it was your idea to have this 'talk' . . . You’ve got to love it!

In Joshua 1:9, the second in command suddenly finds himself in charge of one of the most challenging assignments ever. Imagine . . . 40 years of wandering in the wilderness with millions, yes, millions of ungrateful, disobedient and annoying people. Imagine having a front row seat to witness the grief they put Moses, their fearless leader through. But now Moses is deceased and Joshua is left to take up the responsibility of leading this ‘special’ group into the Promised Land. You’ve got to love it!

God reminds Joshua that when you're on an assignment from Him, failure is just not an option. When it came to doing what God had called him to do, He did not mince his words. God was totally serious about Joshua’s assignment and today, God is equally serious about your assignment too.

“Haven’t I commanded you? Be strong and courageous! Don’t be terrified or dismayed (intimidated), for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Joshua 1:9

God does not suggest how you should approach your life assignments. He is giving you a command. To be clear, when your assignment is divine, the results are guaranteed!

The Command

There are two things that God is commanding you to do when it comes to your assignments in life:

  • Be Strong, and
  • Be Courageous

Imagine . . . what could be the outcome if you were bold enough to do ‘x’ or ‘y’ today, this week, this month, this year? What if you pushed past your doubts, your excuses, and other people’s negative comments? Just think of what you could achieve and the positive impact you could make in someone else's life.

Interestingly, not only does God command Joshua to be strong and courageous, but He also commands him NOT to do these three things

  • Don’t be terrified
  • Don’t be dismayed
  • Don’t be intimidated

Now imagine . . . how life-changing would it be if you were not afraid of stepping up to your life assignment? What if you were not dismayed by the resistance to that assignment. How about if you refused to be intimidated by the magnitude of, or the personal, professional and spiritual cost of your life assignment?

 The Promise

Whatever it is that you have been called to do this year, wherever you have been called to go and whoever you have been called to become, remember God’s commands to you. However, God does not stop there. He had a promise for Joshua and you better believe He has the same promise for you . . .

“The Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” You’ve got to love it!

Don't think for one minute that you have to tackle your life assignment alone. Never be in any doubt that God is with you. When God is with you, be assured you can be courageous enough to overcome your challenge with self-esteem, your battle with feeling you're not good enough, your struggle with caring what people think about what you are trying to do, your daily fight with procrastination and your default to think small when you know you were created to make a much bigger impact in this world!

How To Love Your Life Assignment

  1. Acknowledge God’s commands for your life
  2. Personalize God’s promises to you
  3. Woman Up/Man Up to any daunting challenge you face
  4. Do whatever it takes to be ‘strong’ & ‘courageous’ [Get that business/mindset/health/finance coach, see a psychologist/counselor, change your diet, read your Bible intentionally, forgive someone ...]
  5. Assume your command [stand your ground in your life assignment] & possess the ‘land’ – possess the ‘life’, the ‘business’, the ‘book’, the ‘ministry’ and the ‘impact’ that God has waiting for you this year!

Whether you chose your life assignment voluntarily or had it ‘thrust’ upon you, like Joshua, what’s not to love about the command and accompanying promise God is giving you today? The question is, are you ready to step up and fulfill your life assignment with strength and courage knowing that God will be with you?

Having a command and a promise is something you've just got to love!
